About Me
I bring a unique history to counselling through my past work as a speech-language pathologist for 23 years. I have worked with adults who had suffered from strokes or neurodegenerative diseases, and helped to support them with their resulting communication and swallowing issues. I also worked many years with children and youth who struggled with neurodiversity, ADHD, communication difficulties and other learning challenges. Although I am no longer practicing as a speech pathologist, this past perspective allows me to understand these types of challenges at a deeper level. Keeping the medical perspective of these challenges in mind, I can help support your mental health journey if you are struggling in any of these areas.
My Approach
I am passionate and dedicated to the work I do with my clients, taking a trauma-informed approach that respects diversity through cultural humility. I believe everyone has the resources within them to achieve psychological health and wellbeing, and my role as a therapist is to walk alongside you as a guide in your journey. Using an eclectic approach, I draw from various modalities including Humanistic and Psychodynamic but I also lean into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness approaches to best meet your needs. I believe in a collaborative counselling relationship that uses evidence-based strategies and approaches to help you achieve holistic wellbeing and wellness.
